The Cawnpore Lookout is about 51kms west of Middleton (population three). The Kennedy Development Road winds its way through Jump Up and Channel Country – tough, big skied country. Its mostly a single lane bitumen road where the outback rule (get off the bitumen and give it up to the larger vehicle) applies. The landscape is made up of stunning flat topped hills or mesas(jump ups). These formations are said to be unique. Australia and South America are the only two places where they are found. The mesas are the remains of plateau country that resisted erosion from an inland sea 90-100 million years ago. The area is known as Lilleyvale Hills.
